Feria de Málaga
The ‘Feria de Málaga’ will be held in August this year, from the 13th to the 20st and if you are in the area during this week it is well worth a visit. Sandra Martin, our local Malaga expert tells us about what to expect!
"It is the biggest Feria in Andalusia, together with the Feria de Sevilla.
The festivities are usually opened by “el pregón” a well known Malaga personality. It opens with an official announcement and a few words about the beautiful city of Malaga.
At midnight, there will be a huge fireworks’ display. The best place to watch them is from Castillo de Gibralfaro, Playa de la Malagueta or Playa de la Misericordia. The display lasts for about 20 minutes and there is plenty of music and fun to be had!
The Fair then continues on the next day. The city centre is the place to go, where you will see the streets beautifully decorated and atmosphere in abundance. Calle Larios is the main street to visit but all the streets around it will have lots to look at. There will be lots of traditional music, a variety of food, and as the Spanish do so well, a lot of locals dressed up in “Trajes de Flamenco”, or flamenco style clothing! It’s very family friendly (and buggy friendly too)!
Head down to the port of Málaga and the bullfighting arena for more activities, music and party. There will be stalls selling everything from food to toys.
But that’s not all!! As the afternoon activities draw to a close, the “Feria de Noche” festivities begin and the suburb of El Real comes to life.
The fair at “El real” is divided into 2 areas. One area is made up of booths and stalls devoted to restaurants and all things food. There is also a music hall where concerts are held concerts during the days of fair.
The other area is a fun fair with tonnes of rides and amusements for all ages. I personally have always preferred to go to the “Feria de Noche”, because if you like, you can also dance (or try and dance) the “Sevillanas” or any other traditional dance. It is also cooler in the evening so much more comfortable to walk around in, especially with kids. "
All in all, as anyone who has been to a Spanish Feria or Fiesta before, they are great fun, very vibrant with lots to do and see and well worth a visit!
